September 6 – 17, 2025

Tour Extension: Gondwana Private Game Reserve

September 17 – 20, 2025

Our journey will start in the port city of Cape Town, South Africa’s legislative capital and the country’s oldest city, situated on the southwest coast beneath the famous and awe-inspiring Table Mountain.

During the southern hemisphere’s spring, we will take in the abundance of wildflowers of the Cape Floral Region – a region renowned for its exceptional degree of biodiversity and endemism. We will visit Cape Dutch gardens, picturesque estates of the winelands, the world-renowned Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, and balance these private and hands-on visits with time to relax and enjoy the company of fellow botanical artists.

Our main tour will end with a stay at Grootbos Private Nature Reserve where we will have the opportunity to sketch the native plant life of the fynbos ecoregion and see the Grootbos Florilegium, as well as the gallery with works by ASBA member botanical artists.

The 3-day tour extension will bring us to Gondwana Private Game Reserve, located east of Grootbos, around a 4-hours-drive by private coach. Gondwana is home to a wealth of wildlife and birds, including the Big-5 (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo), multiple varieties of antelope, and the endangered Cape Mountain zebra. All set against the backdrop of the fynbos in the Cape Floral Region.
