A More Abundant Future: Diversity in Garden, Farm, and Field

Foundry Art Centre, St. Charles, MO
Exhibition may travel

DESCRIPTION

ASBA is curating an exhibition for this project with over 30 countries participating. The theme celebrates biodiversity in the crops that we all rely upon for our daily sustenance. Artworks selected will be included in a live exhibition at Foundry Art Centre, a print catalog, and a digital slideshow of a compilation of works from all 30 countries. This slideshow will be available online as well as being on view at each of the physical venues for country exhibitions.

This project seeks to draw attention to the vast variety of food and useful plants available, in contrast with the relatively few varieties used in mass cultivation. Currently, many heritage species and varieties are only cultivated by specialist growers on a small scale. It is vital to promote this genetic diversity in a world challenged by a growing population and a changing climate. Also at risk are crop wild relatives, ancient, and foraged foods that can help increase security in the decades to come.

Find heirloom crops or ancient crops at farm stands, orchards, research gardens, specialty growers, or in your own garden. Crop wild relatives can be sought in your region in meadows and along forest edges. Pick something that appeals to you and submit it by the entry deadline of October 25. Find more specific information about the theme below, or by watching this YouTube Program about the topic:
