Eastern Redbud Leaf

Cercis canadensis

The eastern redbud leaf is quite fascinating to observe from early spring, when its

leaves resemble crimson hearts just begin to blossom. Interestingly, the leaves of

this tree slightly change color from brownish-burgundy in cool weather to dark

green or brown in warm weather.

A delicate leaf, like all living creatures sensitive to any change around it, inspires

one to draw it with the every small detail. When someone asked the Spanish

architect Gaudi where he found his inspiration, he would answer, "From an

ordinary tree, with its branches and leaves. All parts of the tree feel so organic and

look perfect, because they were created by one artist--God."
