AWARD-WINNING PUBLICATION FEATURES ARTIST ELLEN FISHBURNE
Ellen Fishburne's art appears prominently in South Carolina Wildlife magazine's January/February 2022 issue. Her watercolors of a Pileated woodpecker and Catesby's gentian grace the front and back covers, and her illustration of Bald cypress appears in the recurring article Carolina Sketchbook.
A feature article compares Fishburne's natural history illustration methods to that of 16th Century English naturalist and artist Mark Catesby. Accompanying the article is a time-lapse video of Fishburne at work in the field.
This year marks 300 years since Catesby began his four-year exploration of southeastern North America, where he made Charleston, South Carolina his home base. The fruits of his labors were published as "Natural History of Carolina, Florida & the Bahama Islands" and set an early standard for natural history illustrators. South Carolina Wildlife magazine celebrates Catesby’s monumental accomplishments with in-depth articles related to his work throughout their January/February issue.
Fishburne, ASBA member and part of the North Carolina Circle, grew up in Statesville, NC, receiving private instruction from Louise Gibert.
