The Beauty
Alcea rugosa
The grace of this plant strikes me to the core. I wanted to create an artwork – a portrait of a flower with such dignity. I saw the beauty and the confidence in every element; in wilted parts, in fresh buds, in the proud curve of the stem, in the flower opened towards the sun. I named this work "The Beauty" because I have recognized a self-confident woman in this plant.
I completely immersed myself in the process of work. I had been painting for several days with little breaks for food and sleep. It took me a long time for complex green colors of the leaves. It took all my accuracy and attentiveness to work with the plant's trichomes. The process was really exciting. The result still inspires me.
During the year after its creation, the painting took part in four Russian exhibitions. I am very glad that American colleagues and spectators will have an opportunity to see it. I hope viewers will feel the inspiring grace I have seen in this beautiful flower.
