Tomatoes on the vine
Solanum lycopersicum
Usually I paint flowers and collect thousands of photos for future references. But one day I just noticed these tomatoes in a grocery shop. Was it special light coming from the window, vibrant contrast of red tomatoes and white table or just the beauty of a simple shape of a common object that captured my attention? Whatever it was, I literally could not fall asleep until I made a first sketch. All my flower projects were put aside and I had a really fun time painting tomatoes.
I used my favourite multi-layered, wet-on-wet, technique with a few final dry stokes for greenery and details.
It was a big discovery for me to get such an inspiration from a rather common subject and it would be my pleasure if I could inspire you, as well, to find beauty and joy in painting treasures discovered in your everyday life!
