Hibiscus
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis cv.
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, commonly called hibiscus, but also known as China rose, Chinese hibiscus and shoe black plant, is widely planted as an ornamental plant throughout the tropics and sub tropics. In Southern California, where I live, this hibiscus is planted everywhere.
I bought this hibiscus from my favorite grocery store because I liked its orange, pink and burgundy petal colors. Unfortunately, I couldn’t determine the cultivar name.
Because this hibiscus commonly has smaller sized flowers I decided to paint it larger than life size, about two times larger. This plant also has a lot of leaves, so I painted it as is. This is my second hibiscus painting and I am finding enjoyment in painting its petals so I think that I will continue to paint at least a few more hibiscuses before taking up a different subject.
