Coville Blueberries
Vaccinium corymbosum ‘Coville’
Fruit is my favourite subject to paint and I am particularly drawn to fruit which is covered with soft, powdery bloom. For me, blueberries are especially beautiful because of their subtle colors which change as they ripen.
The soil is too chalky for blueberries where I live so I drove to the Royal Horticultural Society Garden Wisley to find some to paint and these were the ones that caught my eye. I built up the watercolor paint in layers using just a few colors to mix from and a very dry brush. This was my first blueberry painting but I have done several more since this one - and now have a small collection of blueberry plants in pots in my garden.
